Classically trained in ballet and modern dance, Travis began studying Oriental dance in 1971 with Elizabeth Cogburn. After working with this form with many teachers, she expanded her studies to include Kathak, Flamenco, folk dance, clogging, tambourine and frame drum. In 1990 she was introduced to Central Asian dance by Laurel Victoria Gray of Washington, D.C. and in 1992 Travis traveled to Uzbekistan in Central Asia to study and perform there as a guest artist. Based in Santa Fe, NM, Travis performs her solo concerts around the U.S. and overseas.
